Vendor Selection Issues

A rigorous process is needed to properly understand, evaluate, and select a technology for your business. Too often business decision makers prematurely start looking at options and talking to vendors without properly understanding all of the factors involved in making a changeout of technology a success.
  • Rigor does not necessarily imply a lengthy process, but it must be thorough enough to consider all of the important factors.
  • All of the stakeholders must be involved to properly scope the needs. This includes users as well as decision makers.
  • A full disclosure of all aspects of requirements is needed, both the features as well as the system wide aspects like capacity and error handling.
  • Potential vendors must reply with all required details of their product to ensure a fit to the business requirements.

Vendor Selection

Haskell Technologies customizes vendor selection engagements to meet specific business needs. This can be a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process with vendor submissions or a requirements and vendor presentation format.

Methodology

The vendor selection process has several steps:
  • Interviews with all stakeholders are conducted to understand the present technology base and the problems that are under review.
  • A set of requirements is written on the systems requested. Optionally, this can be embodied into a formal RFP with associated formal response practices.
  • Questions from vendors on the requirements are addressed so that they can make their best proposals.
  • Facilitated vendor presentations are held with the business decision makers. We provide our technical expertise to ensure all details important to meeting requirements are understood from each vendor.
  • Finally, a clear vendor recommendation is made that provides the best price to feature balance which will meet business requirements.
